This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen, also known as Ladies and Gentlemen, to the Gas Chamber,
is a collection of short stories by Tadeusz Borowski.(Original title Pożegnanie z Marią - Farewell to Maria.)
A Polish Communist, Borowski was a resistor against the Nazis during World War II, and was incarcerated at the notorious Auschwitz death camp where he was put to work as a kapo. In searing, satiric prose Borowski details what life and death were like in the Nazi concentration camps. It also reflects his guilt for being a Kapo (a prisoner who helped the Nazis maintain order and received, in return, better
living conditions, food, and parcels from home.)
